What Is Line Boring?

Line boring is a precision machining process used to restore, resize, or realign bore holes in heavy equipment and structural components. Over time, the pin bores in excavators, cranes, loaders, and other machinery wear out of round — causing vibration, abnormal movement, and accelerated damage.

Rather than replacing entire components at enormous cost, line boring restores the bore to its original specification — extending the machine's working life and returning it to full operational performance.

  • Restores Worn & Damaged Bores

Returns out-of-round or oversized bores to precise OEM dimensions.

  • Corrects Misalignment

Re-establishes correct bore centreline alignment across multiple points.

  • Extends Equipment Lifespan

Properly restored bores dramatically reduce ongoing wear and prevent further damage.

  • Reduces Replacement Cost

A fraction of the cost of replacing booms, frames, or structural components.

Our Line Boring Services

Precision bore repair and restoration for every type of heavy equipment — on-site or in our workshop.

01

On-Site Line Boring

Our portable self-aligning boring machines are transported directly to your construction site, mine, port, or facility. Equipment stays in place — no dismantling, no transport, no logistics delays. We set up, align, machine, and hand the equipment back to you operational.

02

Heavy Equipment Bore Repair

Specialist bore restoration for construction and mining machinery. We work on the full range of heavy equipment, correcting wear and misalignment in boom, stick, bucket, and frame bores to return machines to full working specification.

Welding & Bore Build-Up

Where bore surfaces are severely worn, we first rebuild the bore walls using high-quality MIG/TIG welding techniques before precision machining. This ensures there is sufficient material to achieve the correct finished diameter and surface quality.

04

Alignment & Precision Finishing

Final precision boring ensures all bores are machined to exact diameter, roundness, and centreline alignment — guaranteeing smooth pin movement, correct clearances, and full restoration of the equipment's designed range of motion and load capacity.

Our Line Boring Process

A structured, engineered approach that ensures precision and quality at every stage — from first assessment to final handover.

01

Inspection & Assessment

Our engineers arrive on-site and conduct a thorough inspection of all affected bores using precision measurement tools. We measure the extent of wear, out-of-roundness, and misalignment, then document the findings and confirm the machining scope before any work begins.

02

Setup & Calibration

The portable line boring machine is positioned and rigidly mounted to the equipment frame. The boring bar is laser-aligned and calibrated to the bore's centreline axis, ensuring the cutting head tracks perfectly through all bore points before machining begins.

03

Welding & Rebuilding (Where Required)

If bore walls are too worn to machine directly to the final size, our welding team builds up the bore surfaces using MIG or TIG welding. The weld is allowed to cool and stabilise, then ground back to near-dimension in preparation for precision boring.

04

Precision Machining

The boring bar is engaged and the bore machined to the specified final diameter in carefully controlled passes. Feed rates and cutting depths are monitored throughout to achieve the correct surface finish, roundness, and diameter tolerance — typically within ±0.01mm of specification.

05

Final Inspection & Testing

Once machining is complete, the bore is measured again with precision bore gauges and checked against the required specification. Pin fit is verified, alignment is confirmed, and a full inspection report is provided to the client before equipment is returned to service.

Equipment & Technology

We use precision-aligned portable machining systems designed specifically for on-site heavy equipment restoration, backed by workshop-grade measurement and welding equipment.

Portable Boring Machines

Self-aligning hydraulic boring bars handling 40mm–600mm bore diameters directly in the field without equipment removal.

Laser Alignment Systems

High-accuracy laser bore alignment tools ensuring boring bar centreline is set to OEM specification before any cutting begins.

MIG / TIG Welding Units

Industrial welding systems for bore build-up, hard-facing, and structural repair — enabling restoration of severely worn surfaces.

Precision Bore Gauges

Electronic and dial bore gauges measuring to ±0.001mm, used for pre-machining assessment and final dimensional verification.

Calibration & Metrology

Full suite of CMM tooling, dial indicators, feeler gauges, and surface finish measurement instruments for quality assurance.

Mobile Support Vehicles

Fully equipped field service vehicles carrying all tools, equipment, and spares needed for rapid on-site mobilisation across Nigeria.
